Diamond shapes

Every shape has its own brilliance, character, and way of catching the light. Here’s how to find the one that feels like yours.

The difference

Shape vs cut

A diamond’s shape is its outline seen from above — round, oval, emerald. Its cut is how precisely the facets are angled to handle light. Shape sets the style; cut decides the sparkle — and a well-cut stone shines in any shape.

Good to know

Shape questions, answered

Which diamond shape sparkles the most?

Round leads for pure brilliance — it’s engineered for it — with radiant, princess, oval, pear, and cushion close behind. That said, cut quality matters more than shape: a well-cut stone sparkles in any shape.

Which shape looks the largest?

Elongated shapes — marquise, oval, pear, and emerald — spread their weight across a larger surface, so they often look bigger than a round of the same carat.

Are some shapes more affordable?

Yes. Round commands the most demand and loses more rough in cutting, so fancy shapes like princess, cushion, emerald, oval, and pear often cost less per carat.

Which shapes hide inclusions best?

Brilliant-faceted shapes (round, cushion, radiant, oval) scatter light and mask tiny inclusions well. Step cuts like emerald show more, so clarity matters a little more there.

Is shape just personal preference?

Largely, yes — it’s the most personal of all the choices. Style, hand shape, and your setting all play a part. Choose the outline you love, and we’ll make sure it’s beautifully cut.
